How to install OpenVPN-AS software?



In order to install the Access Server, you will need to download the Access Server package and place it somewhere on the intended server host where an administrator can have access to it. All of the operations below must be performed as the "root" user.  Gain root access and navigate to:

https://openvpn.net/index.php/access-server/download-openvpn-as-sw.html

install packages

Select the package that matches your server OS, click select, you will be taken to the download page.  Choose the specific distro running on your server, right click to copy the download url.

On the server:

wget <paste copied url>

Fedora/CentOS/RHEL:

Go to the directory where you placed the downloaded RPM and enter the following command line, substituting the RPM filename:

rpm -i openvpn-as-2.1.4-Fedora10.x86_64.rpm

This should successfully install the Access Server package.

Note that if you ever have to remove the Access Server installation, the command to use is:

rpm -e openvpn-as

Ubuntu/Debian:

Download and save the appropriate Debian package (.deb) file. Then go to the directory where you placed the downloaded file and enter the following command line, substituting the package filename:

dpkg -i openvpn-as-2.1.4-Ubuntu16.amd_64.rpm


This should successfully install the Access Server package.

Note that if you ever have to remove the Access Server installation, the command to use is:

dpkg -r openvpn-as

After successful installation of the OpenVPN Access Server package you will be shown the following information in your terminal:

The Access Server has been successfully installed in /usr/local/openvpn_as
Configuration log file has been written to /usr/local/openvpn_as/init.log
Please enter "passwd openvpn" to set the initial
administrative password, then login as "openvpn" to continue
configuration here: https://listeningip:943/admin
To reconfigure manually, use the /usr/local/openvpn_as/bin/ovpn-init tool.
Access Server web UIs are available here:
Admin UI: https://listeningip:943/admin

Client UI: https://listeningip:943/You will need to run one more command before navigating to the OpenVPN Access Server Admin UI. You will need to set a password for the openvpn admin account, to do that you can run the following command in terminal:

passwd openvpn

After doing so you can navigate to the OpenVPN Access Server Admin UI. If you require a more advanced configuration you can go ahead and run the ovpn-init script:

/usr/local/openvpn_as/bin/ovpn-init
